Community College Edition: Sports

There are so many things I miss about high school. Prom, for one, was the best experience ever. But the sports makes a close second! I remember being so competitive; Rooting for my team and hoping we would be victorious (the competitive side in me made no choice for losing). But now those memories, are just… memories. I left my love for sports with my high school career and I haven’t had a need for it since. Fast- forward four years, and now I am in college. College is a HUGE experience and widely known for its sports. So what are college sports like? Well my pretties, here is the Community College Edition. #enjoy

1. No One Really Knows the Who, What, When, and Where

This, of course, is debatable, but at least at Pasadena City College, no one knows what sports are being played and at what times. I tried to get into college sports so many times during my first semester, but it was merely impossible. You could ask everyone in your class what games are that day and no one would know, nonetheless care. At a community college, sports are just so watered down. I think this may be because everyone is just trying to get out and into a four- year college. No one has time for sports, besides, there is always time for that when we get into the college of our dreams! *cough cough* UCLA Bruins.

2. School Spirit Is Dead

Of course, no team becomes victorious without its fans! But then there is the moment when you realize, your community college team(s) have no fans… I believe school spirit makes the game more interesting. It is just so fun being able to trash talk rival teams and to wear temporary tattoos of your school’s mascot. But community college is different. With everyone studying so hard, we all just want to go home and sleep at the end of the day, NOT stay at school. Of course, team spirit varies at every school, so don’t feel terrible if you plan on attending a community college; only YOU can determine how great your college experience will be.

3. You Find Out Your Team Loses Anyway

See #2 and #1

Because what point is there winning if no one knows when the game is, goes to the game, and cheers their team on?

4. HOMECOMING!

Before you get too excited, let me elaborate: No gorgeous gowns are involved, no curls, pearls, and nail polish is optional (GASP!) It’s just football, and that’s all it will ever be. The days of crowning Kings and Queens are over (at least at PCC), and wearing your school spirit is a must. On the contrary, people actually do attend the Homecoming game. So for one night, you will experience a TON of high school nostalgia and wish those days would have never ended. #trustme. It is a night of pride, spirit, and becoming united as a school. So enjoy it while it lasts! But hey, if you must wear a flowing ballgown and 6 inch pumps, don’t let me stop you! You do you, girl. #girlswillbegirls
